Generally GiGi is the one who takes care of the dogs and cats, and Safia cares for the horses, which is also her calling and her passion (check out CavaliSpirit on the social networks – Facebook/Instagram/YouTube). We share our love for them all, for every single animal we meet on the streets; for the chicken that are cooped up in tight cages; for the mules that struggle to pull their heavy loads while their owner beats them to go faster; for the monkeys stuck in hot cages in the Jmaa Fnaa square; for the kittens and puppies that are often found shut up in bags and thrown in the wilderness to die of suffocation, and so much more of this horrific cruelty!
Being an animal lover in Marrakech is very challenging, frustrating, and hurtful but then you manage to save one, and it makes such a difference to that one being! We feed a mummy dog and her babies (among many others) on the streets, and although she hasn’t a home, she is so obviously happy to be fed and free to roam wherever she pleases. When she sees us arriving, she and her babies go into a frenzy of wagging and barking and jumping up and down. And strangely enough her grown up babies are always with her as is their father. They make a beautiful family!
